10 Awesome RC Helicopters

Remote Controlled (RC) gadgets are fun to operate: from children's cars to big aeroplanes and ships. But when it comes to flying RC helicopters, it is both fun and skills of the operator for controlling a RC helicopter is really difficult and much more challenging than an aircraft.

The beauty of RC gadgets is that these should look like the actual. Thus the quest to make bigger and bigger crafts for the real fun flying. I came across this video and it was really awesome to see big machines flying majestically in the air - and if one doesn't know that these are RC gadgets, one may almost take them to be real.

The video I am sharing below displays 10 awesomely big helicopters. I really admire those who made these and skillfully fly these not for their own amusement but to provide fun to the onlookers.

Top 10 Biggest RC Planes Ever !!

It was way back in the 1960s when I first came to know about the RC airplanes. One of my elder brothers had a flare for assembling kits of airplanes made of balsa wood and paper. He would artfully assemble his airplane kits and then we used to go to an abandoned air strip some distance away from our home where he used to fly the airplanes with the remote control gadgets.

Another friend of my elder brother, who was equally RC planes enthusiast, would join in for competition of how far their planes could go before getting out of the RC gadgets range. Sometimes the airplanes would crash and were brought back for reassembling and made flight worthy again.

Bu that was some six decades ago. Since then, the technology of making RC planes has undergone tremendous change and so has the range of the RC gadgets. While ordinary enthusiasts still fly smaller planes, there are professional hobbyists who go for bigger and bigger birds. And some planes really look tremendous and majestic when in the air. I came across this video of 10 biggest toy air planes and was really fascinated to see giant toy plane models taking off, flying, maneuvering and then landing. Do watch the video below and you will be amazed - really amazed !!

You wont believe it - these F-16s are RC

Flying remotely controlled aircraft is one of the most liked and adopted hobbies of people around the world. Although flying small model aircraft  is the fun of the most hobbyists, but flying huge model aircraft is exclusive to some as these big birds cost more and more expertise as a crash may result in dooming a large sum of money.

Yet, despite the exorbitant cost, some lovers of aircraft do fly big model aircraft which when in air or shot from close quarters look as if an actual aircraft is flying. Earlier I have shared videos of the world's smallest RC helicopter, size of your computer mouse, as well as big or should I say world's largest RC aircraft such as C-17 and the SuperFortress. But today I am sharing almost real F-16!!

I came across this video and thought my RC aircraft loving friends would enjoy watching F-16s, the Fighting Falcons, taking to the sky just like real F-16s we see in war documentaries and movies. So brace yourself and watch the video below:

Watch out!! Dutch police training eagles to catch RC drones

Lately RC drones have become an emerging hobby for many across the world. Adventurists take these drone while on a outdoor excursion while mountain climbers use these to show their climbing progress to colleagues at the base camp.

But use of these drones is increasing in cities too, where even some surveil the privacy of people in homes. The free use of these drones have also caused accidents, specially entangling these with power lines or even threatening the aerial activity around airports.

The Dutch police has thus come upon a novel idea of training eagles to catch these drones mid air to arrest their excessive and dangerous use.

Watch the video below, as shared by Mashable, and see how the eagles will be able to snatch a flying drone and bring it back to the police for confiscation:

RC gadgets are amazing and those who have a passion for such devices are sometimes amazing - in their techniques, innovation and aesthetics while designing these gadgets and automobiles and airplanes.

I have been sharing many Rc gadgets in the past but it has been rather a long break since my last RC gadgets post. Today, I came across one such RC gadgets enthusiast showing his innovation in  a video that I could not resist sharing. You will be amazed too when you watch the following video.

Hobby Lobby comes to an end

I first heard of Hobby Lobby in my childhood, the mid 60s, when one of my elder brothers Jamal Hameed Bhatti along with a friend of my eldest brother Gul Hameed Bhatti used to make RC airplanes from kits made by Hobby Lobby. We used to go to a rather non-functional runway of Lahore Flying Club and there we flew these RC planes made of Balsa wood and paper.

And inspired by the name, I initiated this blog of mine and named it Hobby Shobbys.

Now I hear that after many decades of serving the RC gadget lovers, the building from where the Hobby Lobby began in 1964 has been torn down (photo above).

This building had some nostalgic memories for all the RC pilots and gadget lovers, who looked upon it as the sole reservoir for anything that moved or flew with a RC.

JoAnne MArtin, wife of the man who founded Hobby Lobby sums up her 40 years association with Hobby Lobby as under:

I worked at HL for 40 years, met and married my husband there, and absolutely loved my job! My husband was the owner and the employees were my family! I watched both flourish and succeed! I still have my husband and I still have my family! Maybe the business and building are gone but memories will never go! I am happy knowing that my family loved it there and have moved on as "kids" will do. I think no one will ever forget their days at Hobby Lobby!

Good Bye Hobby Lobby - you shall always be missed.

The remotely controlled battlefield

The RC hobbyists have fathomless imagination and innovative mind. We have been sharing the remotely controlled fighters, ships and cars in our previous posts - but this video on a remotely controlled battlefield stopped me and thought of sharing it with my readers who love remotely controlled gadgets.

See how a battlefield has been simulated with tanks rolling, crushing the objects that come their way and airplane bombing. 

One can see the battlefield smoke and cannon firing. This is really classic.
