'Concorde' back in the sky

It has been a while that people last saw a Concorde in the air after its tragic incident and shelving of the project as a whole. But the Concorde lovers have not forgotten this mighty aircraft which due to its speed and unique design was once the darling of the skies over Europe.

The ill fated Air France Flight 4590 that was the last Concorde flight which ended in a disaster killing 113 people on board

While looking for a remote control aircraft, I came across a video on YouTube about this mighty aircraft which by any standards of the remote controlled aircraft seems really big and reminded me of this mighty airplane.

This remotely controlled aircraft replica of the actual Concorde is  powered by two turbines and is really huge.

Watch the video below - you will be awe stricken to see its size and majestic flight. And will also remind us of this finest aircraft and how tragically it came to an end.

Pocket-Sized Spy Drone that can 'Follow' Someone for You

Tiny Drone that can 'follow' for you

Drones are deadly things flying in the air - these have resulted in the killings of thousands of innocent civilians at the cost of a few generally low to medium profile terrorists. Despite the concern of collateral damage, these continue to fly unabated and kill humans.

But there are some drones that can become fun for hobbyists - these range from very small to any size imaginable. Generally these toy cum spy drones are used for fun sakes unless someone has ulterior motives.

Today, I came across a pocket-sized helicopter like drone that can send back live video coverage of the area it is flying on.

The drone, costing mere $450, is so small that it can fit into a handbag, yet can give anyone the ability to spy from the air and it can automatically follow someone for you.

The Pocket Drone is piloted with a standard radio control unit, on a tablet with virtual sticks or by pre-defined GPS way-points. A flyer can simply drag a route for it in Google Maps, and the drone will automatically follow it.

You can also record, save and share, or download flight plans.
It even has a 'Follow Me' mode that enables the drone to follow the tablet or phone wherever it goes.

Remote-control model Airbus A380 mistaken for the real thing

Remote control gadgets are fun to handle, specially when it comes to flying model air planes.

In some of our previous posts, we have shared model air planes that look real when in flight - but here something even bigger which when seen is the air almost looks real and many mistakenly thought as if the real Airbus A380 was overhead.

The remote-controlled plane was filmed flying at an air show in Germany - With an 18ft wingspan it is 14 times smaller than the full-sized Airbus A380.

The model plane is powered by powered by four jet turbines said to cost around £1,800 each.

Machine Gunning RC Planes at Big Sandy Range

Flying RC planes is fun - but firing at RC planes is real fun. Although, for armature hobbyists, it means lot of ammo being sprayed on to the flying machine, the experts just fire a few bullets to shoot down a RC plane.

I came across a video of enthusiasts and hobbyists firing to shoot down the rc airplane and thought of sharing those who have similar interests and may have even participated in such adventures.

The video below was filmed in October, 2010 Big Sandy MG Shoot near Wikieup, Arizona. As reported, in all 1500 reactive targets and 38 planes were used in the live firing exercise and obviously, the airplanes didn't stand a chance as everyone's Triple A capabilities were awesome. One can see none of the airplanes making it through more than 6 passes with most of them getting shot down in 2 or 3.

To the end of the video, the night flying coverage is really impressive with tracers lighting up the range. As reported, 200 rounds a second going up at the planes when they presented themselves.

SR-71: Now one can only see RC Model Planes in the sky

SR-71 Blackbird: The Mach3+ Reconnaissance plane

SR-71 Blackbird was once the backbone of the USAF surveillance fleet and it roared as master of the skies. The high altitude  long-range, Mach 3+ strategic reconnaissance aircraft was famous for its unique shape, black body and extremely powerful thrusts. The SR-71 served with the U.S. Air Force from 1964 to 1998. Of the 32 aircraft built, 12 were destroyed in accidents. Since 1976, it has held the world record for the fastest air-breathing manned aircraft, a record previously held by the YF-12.

A Flight of Helios

An example of solar-powered flight, NASA's Helios aircraft flew almost one hundred years after the Wright brothers' historic flight on December 17, 1903. Pictured here at 3,000 meters in in skies northwest of Kauai, Hawaii, USA in August 2001, the remotely piloted Helios is traveling at about 40 kilometers per hour. 

Essentially an ultralight flying wing with 14 electric motors, the aircraft was built by AeroVironment Inc. Covered with solar cells, Helios' impressive 247 foot wide wing exceeded the wing span and even overall length of a Boeing 747 jet airliner. Climbing during daylight hours, the prototype aircraft ultimately reached an altitude just short of 30,000 meters, breaking records for non-rocket powered flight. 

Helios was intended as a technology demonstrator, but in the extremely thin air 30,000 meters above Earth's surface, the flight of Helios also approached conditions for winged flight in the atmosphere of Mars.

Awesome RC Rafael crash

I have often watched RC airplanes falling and crashing with their parts being torn into pieces.  But I have never seen a RC plane crashing and catching fire till I saw this video of a RC Rafael falling and crashing just like a fighter jet crashing during the air shows and actually catching fire.

Wow!! World's largest model RC Plane

The hobbyists' passion for flying a life size plane remains the ultimate dream. But the video above shows a really large sized replica of a WW-II bomber plane flown by the enthusiasts. I think it is replica of B29 super-fortress, a four-engine propeller-driven heavy bomber that was flown primarily by the United States in World War II and the Korean War. 

The name "Superfortress" was derived from that of its well-known predecessor, the B-17 Flying Fortress. The B-29 was one of the largest aircraft to see service during World War II.  It was the primary aircraft in the American firebombing campaign against the Empire of Japan in the final months of World War II, and carried the atomic bombs that destroyed Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
