All-you-can-read magazine iPad app

We're all very familiar with the concept of All You Can Eat, from the artery-clogging Vegas buffet to the less-literal digital equivalents such as Netflix for TV shows/movies, the various digital music subscription services, and evenAudiobooks.com for audio-books.

In April, Next Issue Media launched with a similar idea for magazines. Pay a monthly fee and get access to a bunch of digital magazines from Conde Nast, Hearst, Meredith, News Corp., and Time Inc. The problem? It was only available for some Android tablets. As of Tuesday, iPad users get to join in the fun with a catalog of nearly 40 magazines, and the promise of more to come. (See the complete list at the end of this story.)
As an avid reader of magazines on the iPad--I subscribe to several through Apple's Newsstand, with individual apps, and via Zinio--I was excited to get a chance to play with the iPad version of Next Issue prior to its release.
What you get
For $10 a month, you get an Unlimited Basic plan, which currently includes 34 magazines such as Bon AppA(c)A'A(c)tCar and DriverCooking Light,FortuneGQSunset, and Wired--basically the monthly and bi-weekly magazines on offer. For $5 more ($15 a month) you're signed up for the Unlimited Premium plan, which adds the weekly magazines: right now,Entertainment WeeklyPeopleSports IllustratedThe New Yorker, and Time.

Real-Time/Offline Translation App “Word Lens” Released For Android, Download Now [Google Play]

Word Lens which can translates text (scanned via Camera) to many languages has now been finally been released for Android as well – after enjoying tremendous success gained from iOS platform in two years.

Much similar to Google Goggles using OCR to detect what’s in the image and utilizing Google Translate engine to translate text, Word lens takes a huge step ahead as through this app you don’t even need an internet connection to perform text translation (of the captured text via smartphone’s camera) like Google. Everything happens in real-time, whereas it takes Google some seconds to process the request !.

This app is ideal for those who are traveling to other countries where fast data access solution (such as 3G) aren’t available. You must be wondering why would anyone need Google’s Goggle app now ?, Well the huge disadvantage of Word Lens is that it supports only three languages by default which are English-French/Spanish/Italian.

If you want other languages support pack as well then you will have to buy them. At the moment those packages are on sale for $4.99 until July 22nd. So if you want to use this app, download the language packs now as after the current sale, price might shoot to $9.99 (like in iOS).

Download Free Google Drive App For iOS

The DropBox competitor in the world Cloud storage solutions Google Drive , has finally made its awaited debut in iOS platform, joining Google’s Chrome browser as the second Google developed offering to hit the rival iOS platform, writes Wahaab JB at Chip Hazard.

This official app will give users the ability to access and view any uploaded files in their Google Drive folder (just like DropBox) . Additionally, the app will also allow any documents that are stored in a corresponding Google Docs account to be viewed. The new Drive app allows documents to be viewed natively on the device and edited immediately.
Google Drive accounts receive 5 GBs of free cloud storage, with in-app options to purchase more as needed. However, this might not be a solid deal since cloud services like DropBox have been in the scene for a while now because of which many promotional deals are already in place which can give you more storage space than Google Drive.
The only attraction for iOS users to try out this service would be because of the Google name-tag on it. Time will tell if this “late” move by Google would enjoy the same success as from the Android platform.

Download Official Google I/O 2012 App for Android

The Google I/O conference is just a few days from now to be held at Moscone Center, 27 -29 June to be exact. In order to facilitate the delegates, Google has offered an official Android app for delegates to keep track of the event and their schedules.

It may be added that Google/s conference follows the Apple’s 2012 Worldwide Developers Conference (conducted annually) held recently.

The I/O conference( which is an extremely popular event amongst the development community)v, held by Google will consist of technical sessions, coding labs, keynote speeches and a good old fashioned hackathon. The official app will also have social features like Google +1 so you will have the ability to +1 sessions directly from within the software.

The app is designed by Google and it’s compatibility starts with the older version of Android 2.2 and up across a massive range of smartphones and tablet devices running the operating system. The greatest thing about this app is that Google will actually be releasing the source code to the app for developers to download and take a lot at how it was thrown together.

If you’re going to this historic event in San Francisco, don’t forget to download this free app exculsively made by Google.
